Different ways to decorate a handmade notebook

Don't judge a book by its cover. That's true, but still, you can change the cover to better match the contents inside. There is no one way to style your cover, but here are some of the ideas.

Vinyl hardcover

Vinyl wallpaper has a bonus that makes it easy to work with. Because of its relative softness in comparison to paper, when gluing to a cover, it wrinkles much less. This way you can use the various designs found at the shops or create a new design by turning it over and using the blank side. The end result gives you a soft textured feel and look.

Hardcover notebook with a jewelery emblem

You can use old or new or fake jewelry to create an emblem type cover. Simply by gluing decorative pieces directly on the notebook.

Linen hardcover notebook

Textiles, most often linen or cotton, is good choice to create a natural look with a texture. It is relatively easy to work with. One thing to remember is to glue the textile to a paper base before gluing it to the covers. If glued directly to the cover, the glue most likely will seep through the textile and after drying will be visible. This design choice is perfect if you desire a natural look.

Polymer clay notebook

Polymer clay cover. This is a creative way to decorate, because of the infinite ways it can be turned into. The only limitations are the book dimensions and how heavy the end result you wish to achieve.

Paper hardcover notebook

Using paper is a classical choice, but still offers many varied design opportunities. The problematic part of using paper is that it is quite hard to apply without having many wrinkles in the end. One trick which helped to resolve this is to glue the paper to each cover board separately and using the same approach as if adding a protective film on your smartphone.
