How wool yarn is made (short version)

Before wool becomes something we can enjoy, it goes through a rather long process. So let me tell you how wool yarn is created in a much shorter version.

First of all, the wool must be collected, by shearing a sheep. After wool has been sheared and the dirt washed off, it is delivered to the manufacturer.

First the wool goes through a carding process which disentangles, cleans and intermixes fibres for further processing.

Later it goes to woollen spinning preparing the wool to be made into yarn. Now it must go through a washing process, after which the wool will be dyed in the various colours you can see in store.

After drying for a while, the now coloured yarn can be spun in similar weight balls and be sold.

Even though yarn is also a good gift idea, click here to check out other wool gift ideas.

This is simplified version of the process mostly because I excluded the reason why this or that is being done. Maybe an update or a part two will follow.... maybe.
