Lantern light bulb garden light

Continuing the previous article, here is my version of that lantern project. It not only looks cool when turned on, but also when hanging in the daylight as a interesting garden decoration.

First thing we need is a lantern. Any odd version will do. Be it a candle light or a simple decoration.

Second thing is light bulb with a socket. It would be best to use one intended for use as a standalone, but a ordinary socket will do just fine.

And lastly, a cord with a plug according to your individual countries plug standard.

I don't know what kind of lantern have you chosen, but mine had air holes on top of it, as it was intended as a candle lantern. That is why here I only needed to use a screwdriver to widen one of the holes to fit a power cable through. If yours has none, you'll probably need to use a drill to make one.

After inserting the cable through tie a simple knot, to ensure that the connections on the socket are not under unnecessary strain and ensures that the connections stay in place.

Here I used a piece of hard wire and created a sort of a base clamp, to keep the lightbulb mostly centred as it hangs in the garden.

Now all that is left is to solder the power cable to the plug. If you are lucky, you had a single plug cord. I was not, therefore I had to make one from two parts.

And lastly I insulated the connected part with some tape.

Hope you will enjoy this project as much as I did.
